WES students sign the school constitutionWES students sign classroom, school wide constitutions

During the past few days, in observance of Constitution Day and the school’s own Constitution, all students at Watervliet Elementary signed their names to a school-wide behavior agreement.

Students ratified the school constitution pledging respect, responsibility, honesty and safety for themselves and others. On Friday, Sept. 16 and Monday, Sept. 19 teachers brought their students to the school lobby to recite and sign the document, which is prominently displayed on the lobby wall.

In addition to signing a school wide constitution, each classroom has also ratified a classroom constitution.

“It unifies our school about our expectations. It pulls us together as a whole school,” WES Assistant Principal Todd Giagni explained.

Many teachers also used the signings as opportunities to discuss the importance of the U.S Constitution.
