Shelter in place situation at WJSHS resolved - 5.6.09

It was brought to the attention of administrators early Wednesday morning that a non-specific threat was discovered on a bathroom wall at Watervliet Junior-Senior High School. In accordance with the district’s safety policies, the school implemented “shelter in place” procedures, which means students and staff remained in their classrooms with no changing of classes. District officials contacted the Watervliet Police Department, which immediately sent six officers to the school to conduct a safety assessment.

The school received the all clear from the police at approximately 9:40 am. Students were released from “shelter in place” at that time, however WJSHS will remain in lockout (i.e., curtailing outside events, locking all exterior exits, and business as usual inside) for the remainder of the school day as a precautionary measure.
