Watervliet CSD invites parents of grades 7-8 students to Literacy Night
Parents of children in grades 3-8 are invited to Literacy Night on Monday, March 18 at 6 p.m. in the WES cafeteria. This for-parents-only event will focus on children's reading and writing skills. Grades 3-8 teachers will provide information and answer questions about the upcoming New York State English language arts (ELA) tests and will share tips and strategies to develop reading skills at home. New York State Education Department Deputy Commissioner Ken Slentz will speak and Assemblyman John McDonald also plans to attend Literacy Night. Read more

Pre-prom meeting emphasizes staying safe while having fun
Watervliet High School students attending the Junior Prom on Saturday were required to attend a meeting with guidance counselors to review and discuss behavior expectations for the big night. Lockdown drill at WJSHS completed; additional drills to occur through end of school year
A lockdown drill at Watervliet Jr.-Sr. High School on Friday, March 1 was successfully completed in cooperation with the Watervliet Police Department and emergency responders. Both schools will continue to have additional fire and safety drills through the end of the school year. Comprehensive safety drills are practiced periodically to help the school district’s faculty, staff and students be prepared in the event of an emergency.

The National PTA has developed a series of guidebooks explaining what children should be learning in English language arts and mathematics in each grade.
